Favorite Childhood Books

Post by Prof. Jetta Delaney » Tue Aug 07, 2018 12:54 am

Besides Harry Potter, of course!

For those of you who do not know from the Discord channel, I am now a first grade teacher! I am currently working on building my classroom library. I have already bought all of the books required by the curriculum, and I am very happy with the direction of culturally, racially, and philosophically diverse books we have this year! But I am always looking to expand my library, and I want opinions on what I should add to my library :)

I have some students who are currently pre-literate or speak zero English, and I have some students who are close to third grade level. So please send me any ideas from board books to early chapter readers! I'd really appreciate it!

I always loved the Jan Brett books. The illustrations are fantastic and there are usually smaller stories told in the page border illustrations.

The Phantom Toll-Booth. One of my all-time favorites!

Also 'Matilda" by Roald Dahl.

The Mouse and The Motorcycle by Beverly Clearly
