Collection Time [Gabe, Cana, Others?]

Red Martin was not in the habit of losing money. In fact, as a man who built himself up from a humble beginning, losing money was a huge insult to both him and his business skills. He had recently obtained a position as an accountant in an up and coming corporation and knew he had to take care of this particular problem before his boss caught wind.

Though Red had graduated from Durmstrang already, he kept a few underlings and informants at the school. Most of which kept charge of his poker ring. It was a fine business and rather successful as far as underground school activities went. That was, until he was cleaned out by a student who then vanished into the unknown.

It had taken a year, but Red had finally been able to track the bloke down to an apothecary outside of another wizarding school. It was smart of him, Red supposed, running from one school to another. But Red had informants everywhere and no one was safe when he started his hunt.

Gabriel Warner considered himself to be living his best life right about now. He was working with potions, at a shop where he was free to take experimentation breaks. He was only a reasonable distance away from the love of his life, and the friends he'd made as well! Overall, it was a lovely consideration. He even had money for once that wasn't from Cana! Admittedly most of it wasn't from the job he had either, but money was money was money.

He'd won most of it while at Durmstrang, were he honest, through gambling and other measures. Illegal but nothing he considered immoral (though what Gabriel considered immoral was anyone's guess). It was a nice tidy sum, that--with his salary--would keep him afloat well to the time Cana graduated. Not that he thought that Aleksander and Daciana would let him falter by any means. Still, it was nice to be somewhat independent of his boyfriend in one way at least, even though he had no desire for more independence than that.

As he watched and directed the magical dustmop in sweeping up the floor, he heard the door bell rattle, and he quickly sent the broom away and straightened himself up.

"Good afternoon! How can I help you?"

As Red entered the shop, he looked around. It was much smaller than he had expected, almost homey. He supposed it didn't need to be big, just enough to keep the town supplied. The smell of drying herbs and plants brought Red back to his potion classroom. Not his favorite class, but one did learn a few useful things.

He was welcomed by a considerably cheerful young man. Obviously this man hadn't spent several months trying to track down a few thousand galleons. Red had created quite a profit by melting the gold down and selling it. A profit that secured his future. A profit this man had abscond with. Red's cool grey eyes studied the man behind the counter. "Mr. Warner, I presume?"

Crossing to the counter, the man leaned forward. He was told once by his co-worker Ryan that with his hair slicked back and his suits impeccably tidy he looked like a New York mob boss. What Ryan knew about New York, Red had no clue, but he liked the imagery. "I believe you have something that belongs to me

Awww cute. He looked like the little Russian boy in John Wick, all slick hair and vigor! It was going to fun to wipe that off his stupid smug face. Gabriel dropped the fa├žade of a helpful retail employee, and leaned back against the counter with a casual smugness that only came from having a high powered attorney as a father.

"I don't steal. I do however, win. So are you the enforcer or the house? Cause if you're either, you're built like one of those stupid little tiny homes in comparison to what I'm used to."

He uncrossed his legs from over each other and walked over to the man, not a terrible deal older looking than himself.

"So what is it I won that you want back precisely? I'm not gonna give it, but it's more entertaining to put a name to a face."

It took all of Red's efforts not to take the man's head and slam it down on the counter. He had seen Marcus do that once and thought it was the coolest thing in the world. He had been been itching to try it. However, the phrase rang true, you caught more flies with honey than vinegar. Once you caught them, you could do what you will.

"I'm the man who financed your... escape," Red said with serious effort to control the rage in his voice. "Now, we can fo this nice and simple, you give me back what is mine with interest on what you used. Or I can make it hard on you. I'm sure this place is as dry as a beggar's purse. It would be a shame if it happened to go up in flames, wouldn't it?"

At which point, he would just take the insurance money. It would be a win for him either way, but he would give the man a choice before burning his livelihood down.

"Oh yeah! You. Yes, it was very inconvenient when my parents cut me off from seeing my boyfriend. He would have financed me coming back to him. Unfortunately, the situation was what the situation was, and the heart wants what the heart wants. I'm sure he'd be able to pay you back if you were well. Less likely to threaten me. He doesn't like that."

He leaned back and linked his hands behind the back of his head and smiled a Cheshire grin.

"No, you don't like that at all do ya, honey?"

He wasn't entirely sure when Cana had gotten there, of course. But from the look on his face, it was at least the exact right time.

Gabe giggled a bit and tilted to the side, looking every bit unhinged.

Cana wasn't entirely sure what his goal was with going to the shop (asides, perhaps, getting Gabe to close so they could make out for a bit), but as he came down the hill, loping on long legs, he noticed a man who looked rather....ridiculous going into the shop. Well, not ridiculous, perhaps. Stereotypical perhaps was the word. He looked like every casino owner or mob shark his father had ever dealt with over the course of his storied career, and Cana had liked none of them.

He was cautious as he followed and even more cautious as he opened the door. The man didn't look back. Cana, despite his gargantuan size, was never precisely one to make a lot of noise when the situation called for it.

And then Gabe was smiling at him and saying things, and Cana drew himself up to his full height.

"No, I really don't, I'm afraid," Cana muttered.

Red felt a chil go up his spine. He hadn't even heard the door open. That wasn't good. He could have been dead already. The fact that he wasn't, wasn't heartening. There were many reasons to keep him alive, not all of them bad, but the majority were at the very least on the distasteful side.

The thing people misunderstood about power, was that most assumed to be powerful to had to be the most powerful. They exhausted themselves trying to prove they were better than everyone else. Those kinds of people never had real power. Real power didn't demand respect, it commanded it. And there was power in knowing your place.

Red had been the most powerful player until the lug behind him showed up. The Warner character was obviously under his protection, which automatically raised his rank. Not as high as Red, but definitely higher. Still low enough Red didn't have a problem turning his back on the bloke.

"You see," the man said, tilting his head just enough to look into the eyes of the taller man. It was an unusual position for him to be in. "What we have here is a classic misunderstanding."

Gabe held back a giggle. Cana, his knight in shining armor, always coming to his rescue. He would have swooned a bit had the nuisance not been right there. As it was though, Gabriel Warner wanted to have a little bit of fun. Striding up behind the man who'd dared try to intimidate him, he lowered his head a bit and looked at him from the side.

"It seems a weak house, if the house can't afford to lose every once and awhile," he cooed. "Sounds like poor management."

He knew he was pushing it a bit, but surely between his magic and Cana's...well, everything, they were a fine match for this fellow.

"I don't think we caught your name, by the way? You obviously already know mine. And this, well, I'll let him introduce himself, but. It's rather rude to just expect me to know who you are, as if I gave a damn."

He let out a slightly manic chuckle. Part of it was to unsettle the guy; part of it was just purely Gabe.

"I'm eager to hear what you believe I'm misunderstanding," the teenager pronounced. "Sounds like you were threatening my boyfriend. In fact, I'dsay you were very clearly threatening my boyfriend."

This was a guy, Cana determined quickly, who was not used to feeling small. Physically at least. Cana met plenty of dudes like that. They thought they were the biggest, most impressive dude in the room. Then Cana would walk in. Or even worse, Cana's father would walk in, dwarfing everyone not only physically but with the sheer presence he exuded. This fellow, however, had clearly not had the experience of someone quite like Cana or Aleksander Havich. He wondered if he'd even be familiar with the name, as small scale an operation as he seemed to have run.

It was unlikely, but there had been plenty of people at Hogwarts who were unfamiliar, so he supposed anything was possible. When Gabe gestured for him to introduce himself, Cana kept a close eye on the man's reaction.

"Cana. Cana Havich. I'd say it's a pleasure, but it's not. Perhaps under different circumstances."
